Day 2: Suiderstrand to Southern Tip to Struisbaai

(13.8 km/8.5m)

Day 2 commences with transport back to Suiderstrand were we start our walk once again with beautiful views and continue for a further 5.5 km.  On the way we pass the Khoi San middens, Rasperpunt hiking trail as well as the shipwreck of the Meisho Maru which sank on 16 November 1982.

We reach the iconic Southernmost Tip of Africa where the great oceans meet – the Atlantic Ocean meets the Indian Ocean where you look back and realize the whole of Africa is behind your back!!

After exploring the area which includes the Cape Agulhas Lighthouse; South Africa’s second oldest working lighthouse; built in 1848, we browse the lighthouse museum and climb the 71 steps to the top.  This provides panoramic views of passing ships and the point where the two oceans meet.

Our journey continues through L’Agulhas which is the southernmost town in Africa, stopping in at a few points of interest along the way.

We will pass the famous Pondjie Botter house and make our way back to our base camp in Struisbaai (8.3km/5.5m).

The rest of the afternoon is at leisure.

Day 2’s walk will be followed by dinner - restaurant/basecamp
